Optimizing Canva to Foster English Vocabulary Mastery at The Seventh Grade Students Of SMP N 1 Duhiadaa

Abstract

This research aims to optimize the use of the Canva application to enhance English vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMP N 1 Duhiadaa. The background of this research stems from the students' limited vocabulary mastery due to monotonous teaching methods. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, collecting data through pre-tests and post-tests. The subjects of the study consisted of 23 students from class VIIb, who participated in four learning sessions using Canva, covering materials on nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. The analysis results showed a significant improvement, with the average pre-test score of 64.3 increasing to 90 in the post-test (a 39.9% increase). The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test revealed a significance value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05, indicating that the alternative hyposkripsi is accepted. These findings demonstrate that Canva is effective in improving students’ English vocabulary mastery and is expected to contribute to the development of more interactive teaching methods.
