ANALYSIS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION ABILITIES IN INDONESIAN LANGUAGE LEARNING
Abstract
Comprehensive reading skills are key to success in education.Comprehensive reading skills can help students deeply understandthe content of a reading, thereby developing their knowledge. Thisskill has been taught since the third grade of elementary school andis specifically developed in Indonesian language lessons, but it is alsouseful in other subjects. However, low reading comprehension skillspersist from elementary school to higher levels. The purpose of thispaper is to describe the reading comprehension skills of elementaryschool students. The writing method used is a literature review, whichexamines various sources.The results of the study indicate that low reading comprehensionskills are caused by low interest in reading, lack of motivation, andboring reading comprehension lessons. The teacher's role is crucialin selecting and implementing appropriate reading comprehensionlearning strategies to improve these skills. There are many types ofreading comprehension learning strategies, and teachers must selectand implement the appropriate strategies to help students achievetheir learning objectives. The teacher's role in selecting andimplementing learning strategies is influenced by their value system.Christian teachers must view their students as Imago Dei, each withunique characteristics and diverse needs. In this way, Christianteachers will help students grow holistically.
