Abstract

Students’ understanding of narrative texts in Indonesianlanguage learning is one of the important indicators of successin literacy learning. This article aims to analyze students’understanding of stories using a descriptive qualitativeapproach based on a literature study. The data collectionmethod is carried out through the review of various sourcessuch as books, scientific journals, and relevant research articles.The data analysis technique is conducted descriptively byinterpreting various theoretical findings related to readingcomprehension and story learning. The results of the discussionshow that students’ understanding is influenced by readingability, vocabulary mastery, reading interest, backgroundknowledge, as well as the learning strategies used by teachers.In addition, interactive and contextual learning approaches canimprove students’ understanding of story content. This articleis expected to contribute to the development of more effectiveand innovative Indonesian language learning strategies.
